They Claim You Get Stuff Cheap At QuiBids.com

So late last night while I was watching TV another commercial came on for QuiBids.com. I had already visited them once but thought what the hell let’s go try it out. From being a web developer I knew the concept behind the site. Basically you buy bids at around $0.50 each and then you bid on items along with other people. Let’s say you’re bidding on a Gift Cards for example and win it like I did. The final bid was around $2.00 and it was a $50 gift card. Let’s toss some math in and find out how much the company really made off that card.

Say it took me 10 bids x $0.50 = $5.00
Say 20 other people were bidding and placed 10 bids each which is 200 bids x $0.50 = $100.00
Now since I won it I have to pay the final price of $2.10 plus shipping / handling which is $1.99
Grand total I paid for this card was $9.09 (including bids), or $4.09 including shipping which is how they want you to see it.
Grand total Quibids made from this card sale is $109.09!

Was it worth it to me? Yes!
Would I do it again? Yes!
Did I do it again? Yes!

I won 3 game points which you use to win free bids, 50 additional bids and two other gift cards. In the end I came ahead since the bids I won were actually purchases. Total amount if Gift Cards I won was $85.

Now they have a LOT of other stuff, gift cards is just something I wanted to bid on. Another good thing that I noticed was on some auctions if you hit the max amount that the card is worth they stop allowing you to be on it and instead offer a Buy It Now option where you pay $1.00 less than the face value of the card but when you factor in shipping it comes to $0.99 more. It’s still a good deal because this way you’re not losing all those bids you spent by still getting the item through Buy It Now.

They also offer badges for winning, bidding and etc. Attached to those badges are extra bids. I won an extra 25 bids on badges and had fun doing it.

Would I recommend QuiBids.com to someone? Sure I would but make sure you understand what you’re bidding on and can afford to lose bids if someone else really wants the item. One example was a 40 inch TV that sold for $40.00. That’s 4000 bids at $0.50 each, totaling $2000!

H&R Block Commericals

It’s getting close to that time of year again were everyone is rushing to have their taxes done. One of my biggest complaints for tax services is the lack of knowledge they really have. For example the H&R block commercials really piss me off when they come on. Why you may ask? Well I have went to H&R Block for several years before finally getting fed up with it all and looking for an alternative.

My last few visits at H&R made me realize just how little knowledge they have about taxes. Basically they hire “tax season” helpers that have never done taxes and stick them in front of a computer which walks them through helping the clients do their taxes. This is a HUGE problem when you ask questions. One year I asked about writing off a room dedicated to my self-employment activities. I was told I could not write if off. The next year they made me measure every inch of it and told me I couldn’t right off any utilities. The following year they told me it was a flat 20%.

After many years of being self-employed you tend to learn more and more. I went straight to the state when I had questions and use alternate means of doing my taxes now. My favorite tax software is the online version of Turbo Tax. It walks you through the processes AND provides you with help information describing exactly what they are looking for as an answer. It also costs me $200 LESS than going to H&R Block which I like a lot considering all I’m doing is paying some person with less knowledge than me to enter in information.

Anyways I thought I would share my opinion as the stupid H&R Block commercial just went off and talks about “saving” you money with their professionals. What a joke!

Green Screen When Trying To Play Videos Online

Everything was going great and then BAAAM no more videos! While it could be anything odds are it’s one of two actual issues. The first is you need to ask yourself “did I install any kind of new video player or codecs recently?”. If the answer is yes then I would start looking there first. For me it wasn’t the first but the second issue. A quick fix for me and I’m hoping for you as well is to simply pull up a video that’s playing nothing but a green background, right click on the video, go to settings and uncheck the Hardware Acceleration box. Reload or restart your browser and see if it’s fixed!

If not, sorry I tried!

P90X Week 3

Just and update to the P90X workout I’m doing. I didn’t want to post every single day on here so here is week 3. I did miss several days due to traveling and holidays but I’m picking up where I left off. The main thing is to stay eating healthy if you miss an exercise. Did I enjoy Thanksgiving? You bet I did but I didn’t pig out, over eat and I didn’t have desserts. That was mainly because once you start eating better and working out you tend to have more self control.

Anyways just remember if you miss a couple days for some reason IT IS OK! Pick back up and take off! My goal was to be in the 220′s and I was 2 lbs away from it yesterday. Time to BRING IT and BRING IT hard! I can already feel the under 200lb goal coming up fast.

Sausage And Cheese Gift Baskets For The Holidays? Swiss Colony VS Figis

As Christmas approaches and if you’re anything like me a family tradition is a meat and cheese gift basket. Over the years I’ve had baskets from various places but by far my most favorite is Swiss Colony. Others may disagree but as with anything in life it’s just a personal favorite for several reason.

Last year we ordered from Figis.com and what a mistake that was. First off all their magazine looks great but when the food arrived it looked generic AND all my cheese was molded green, yes GREEN CHEESE. I called and complained at which time I was told another basket was going out the door that day. Three weeks passed and no basket. I called, got the run around and was basically told they didn’t have any idea what was going on and had no record of me calling before. Regardless they sent me out another basket which I received a week later. After opening it I was back to being pissed off because the cheese again was molded. I called to complain and told them I didn’t want another replacement just my money back and that I would gladly send the product back so that they could see how terrible the cheese looked. I was told no thanks! WEEKS later I received my money and haven’t ordered from there since.

Now I do understand that sh*t happens. Other people may have had the same problem with Swiss Colony but I have not and will continue to use them until I do and then it will have to be bad.

My only other complaint with any meat and cheese basket establishment is the pictures ALWAYS look like you’re getting more for your buck. They use smaller plates or ornaments to set a “bigger” picture.

I wrote this to share my opinion and hopefully get feedback about your experiences.

Lowes Black Friday Online Scam?

Scam may be too much for what happened but it’s the best way I could describe it. This week as everyone knows is Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Well every year sales start earlier and this time places posted WEEK long events. One of those places is Lowes.com and they advertised discounts on certain items through out the week. Well I just happened to find an item I needed at 51% off, added it to my cart after making sure it was in stock, and headed to the check out.

While trying to check out I kept getting an error page near the end of the process that stated “We’re sorry there was a problem with out application, please try again later”. So I tried about every 15 minutes or so for an hour, then I tried for another hour and yet I kept getting the same message. Then I notice that the sale is about to end on the item I’ve been trying to purchase for over 2 hours. I try to call Lowes but they are closed even though the recording stated they should have been open… sigh. Finally it’s minutes before the sale ends so I try to check out again but the same error appears. Midnight strikes, the sale ends, my cart is deleted automatically and the price is double what I could have got it for. But.. guess what? Yup I add it to the cart hit check out and it takes me all the way to the confirmation screen with NO ERRORS.

In short I just needed to get this off my chest as it pisses me off when someone advertises something, fails to deliver, is closed when their recording states they should be open and DOES NOT CONTACT ME BACK.

Wonder what Home Depot has to offer…
