OK I am posting this because I spent all ******* day trying to fix a bug that’s been around for roughly 3 ******* YEARS.

invalid command-line parameter: Files. Hint: use '@foo' to launch a virtual device named 'foo'. please use -help for more information

If you’re trying to use eclipse to build an application, like me, then you have probably ran in to the above error when using Windows 7 64bit with 64bit Java.

I have tried a LOT of different solutions but none worked. So while reading about creating a symbolic link in windows I came up with an idea. COPY THE ANDROID FOLDER LOCATED IN YOUR Program Files (x86) FOLDER TO C:\ANDROID. Once it’s finished change the link in Eclipse (window / preferences) to the new location.

All I know is it’s working fine for me now and I HOPE this helps someone else out!

So if you’re reading this then no doubt you’re having issues. I had those same issues today after upgrading 2 phones on my account to the Droid x2, which I love, from Verizon Wireless.
Let me say that this may or may not work for you. What I can say is that it worked for both of my phones.

I had set my phone completely up before realizing my contacts did not sync with Facebook and for what ever reason there is NO sync button anymore. So after a lot of trial and errors I came up with a method that worked.

Delete your Facebook App, if you have one, and also your facebook account details from the phone. Next on your phone there should be an app pre-installed called “Social Networking”, open it and add your facebook account through that application. Once added save the account and open your contacts. If all went well then your accounts should start linking VERY VERY slowly. Just look for profile pictures to start popping up on random contacts.

This was the only way I could get it to work for me. I don’t know why but it was. Here’s to hoping it works for you!

Droid Charge by Samsung?

So it’s well past time for my to upgrade my phone. I was thinking about the Droid Charge by Samsung but have yet to see any good reviews regarding the mobile device. Has anyone had the pleasure to trying this phone out yet? I love the fact that it’s going to be, or so it says, faster than my Droid 1. 720 HD will be great for recording babies first moments and uploading them Facebook. Thoughts?

Verizon Droid 2.1 Update Released, I’m Not Happy

After many months of waiting the Android 2.1 update is finally here and it’s been whittled down to nothing in my opinion. Here is what I’ve experienced.

Frames Per Second have dropped by half, going from 64ish to 30ish.
We didn’t get 5 screens like originally shown and blogged about all over the internet.
We didn’t get the 3D launcher like the nexus one did.
Live Wallpapers puts more strain on battery life and really not that cool… I guess I’m not really into the whole “I can make my wallpaper look like water and watch when I touch it… it makes water rings!!!” or maybe it’s just that my friends don’t get a shit and I look retarded showing them?
News and Weather Widget.. are you kidding? There are hundreds of apps that do this better in the market place.
Gallery function is the only good thing in this update. But again I don’t look at my pictures enough to really give a damn.
Pinch to zoom has been added to work in more applications but I just double tap to zoom in where I need to perfectly.

In short:

If you want half as much performance, the same amount of screens, the same launcher, a new widget, a better gallery app, and some animated wallpapers, then you’re going to LOVE this update!

Note:

I didn’t buy my phone for these updates so I really don’t give a damn but more functionality such as 5 screens I did look forward too. I still love my phone, even though it’s slower now, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.. well maybe a Nexus one?

Google Voice Anyone?

So yesterday before heading out into the freezing cold here I received an email from Google stating I had been accepted in to their Google Voice Beta program. I signed up for this around a month ago and had forgotten all about it until now. After accepting I did some reading up on it and really liked what I was seeing. Just last night I was logged into the Verizon site looking for a way to remove my Voice Mail feature I purchased with my new Droid. I gave the application a 5 star because it was simple and worked but after having it for a month I ran into a few issues such as it telling me I had voice mail when I didn’t or saying that it couldn’t connect.

So now I’m using Google Voice and love it 10x more. What is Google Voice you might ask? It’s a one stop shop for all your telephone numbers, custom greetings depending on who’s calling you, free SMS and low international calling. Basically they give you a new one-4-all telephone number and if you have a office phone, cell phone and home phone, you can have them ring at any of the three places, no places or all places. This is great for when you’re on vacation or you need to make sure that important business call doesn’t get missed. The only downside is you have to give them your new number. Your old numbers still work the same. Google does however let you customize your number based on numbers available. So I made one that ended in NEK-KIDT for my t-shirt company.

Ever been in the situation where you were headed out with friends or a client to lunch but just couldn’t because of an important call you were waiting on at the office or house? No problem, just tell your house phone to ring your cell phone!

Another great feature that really sold me was being able to have custom greetings for each person that calls and there is another feature to block unwanted callers!

If I get some invites such as I did with Google Talk I will give them away here. So check back often.

SwiftReply is by far one of my new favorite applications for my Motorola Droid. What does it do you might ask?

SwiftReply allows you to setup auto responses for people texting or calling you via cell phone when you are busy or maybe just don’t want to be bothered. All you have to do is setup a few responses which you customize 100%. Here is a few of mine.

Sleeping
Auto Reply: Sorry I am currently sleeping.
Meeting
Auto Reply: Sorry I am currently in a meeting.
Not Accepting Calls
Auto Reply: Sorry I am currently not accepting calls at this time.
Movie

This is a paid application but they do have a free version. The paid version removes the copyright notice that the message is powered by SwiftReply. I think it was around $4.99 but I can’t remember.

Handcent is a text messenger for android and I use it over the default text message application. Handcent allows you to send and save SMS / MMS. It also allows you to search, comes with a quick popup / reply box which I love.

Easily attach sounds, music, audio files, backgrounds, videos, pictures and camera pics with a couple quick taps. I wouldn’t use anything else. Also comes with threaded view and iPhone layout look along with a few other themes.

It’s no secret I love to GeoCache and I am very thankful for GeoBeagle. Not only is a great application but it’s also free! It allows you to import saved waypoints from GeoCaching.com to your phone which in turns imports them. Once imported all caches are listed on google maps and there’s also a cache list which shows you the ones that are closest to your current location. There’s a compass for when you’re getting closer. I recommend giving it a try, after all it’s free!

Looking for a great stock application for your Droid? I recommend iStockManager for those using Ameritrade services. It allows you to login and get real updated times on stock. You can also buy stock, sell stock, set limits option trading and a lot more. It does everything I need it to do.

iStock Manager also pulls in your watch lists and allows you to add additional stock symbols which are saved on the device only. I absolutely love this application.

Looking to make your own ring tones? Look no further than RingDroid. It takes your music and allows you to cut, edit and save directly on your phone. Older versions use to Force Close on me a lot but since the update I have had 0 problems.
