The concept is headed in the right direction but the program is driven by no more than money hungry people who have flipped around something good to rob more people. I live in a small town with only 3 red lights but the talk of this town has been Verizon Wireless and their new FORCED plans coming up on the 28th of June. I have been with Verizon for years after switching from Cricket Communications because they didn’t offer service were I moved to. I have had my ups and downs with Verizon service from time to time but the biggest problem is I hate paying nearly $200 a month for 2 smart phones that may or may not be used that much. $200 is the same monthly price our car dealership offers on most cars, a new perspective on the price of using a cell phone in todays so called modern time.
We currently have the unlimited package because let’s face it I don’t want the hassle of checking my DATA USAGE every day to see if I’m close to being reamed when I go over. If I need to use my phone I want to use it. If I need to send out 20k texts this month I want to do it. If I am bored and would like to listen to Pandora or stream NetFlix I WANT TO DO IT.
With the new plans YOU CAN’T DO IT without going over the smallest plan or paying way to much for the extra Gigabytes of data. Steaming best quality on NetFlix consumes about 1GB per hour. Most movies are 2 hour long… You do the math on a 2GB data plan. On top of that they are pushing this Share Everything as a means to connect more devices. That’s great! except you have to pay for every device you connect, monthly, AND it shares the same data plan.
Now they claim you don’t have to upgrade if you are currently using the Unlimited Data plan but who in their right mind can afford a $1k phone each year? I’ve had my Droid for less than a year and it’s already breaking.
If you want to see how bad the new plans are going to be head over and visit the Verizon calculator page.
Here is a quote directly from Verizon on the people currently using unlimited data packages.
- I have an unlimited data plan on my account. Do I need to change it?You’re not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.
My plan will cost me on average about $20 more a month with only 2 phones and 2GB of data… I guess this is why most of my friends are switching to AT&T but it’s only a matter of time before they come up with something along the same lines. If they do I hope it’s at least better planned then this one!
